A RARE AND VERY LARGE TEKKE MAIN KILIM

TO ENHANCE ANY TURKOMAN COLLECTION

This Rare Antique Tekke Turkoman Flat Woven Main Kilim or Rug Displays the All Over Hooked Losenge Design of Kilims from Geok Tepe which was a Tekke Turkoman Fortress at the Oasis of Ahal, Sometimes Called Akhal-Tekke in Turkestan. It is Hand Woven from Hand Spun Wool in the Extra Weft Brocade Technique and Utilises White Cotton High Lights to Enhance the Design as is Recorded in Most Kilims of this Type.

This Excellent Example Measures 3.35m x 1.9m (11ft x 6ft 3 inches), and is in Very Good Condition for its Age with No Major Damage. For Collectors who Do Not Know this Type of Tekke Flat Weave Due to Their Rarity References can be Found at Rug 28, Central Asian Carpets, Lefevre and Partners, London, 8th October 1976 and Page 75, Heading Turkoman Rug from the National Rug and Textile Foundation Collection in From the Bosphorous to Samakand Flat Woven Rugs, The Textile Museum, Washington, 1969, Anthony Landreau and W Pickering.
