The very early tracks were called “Pioneer Lines”. For many outback towns they were the first reliable communications link with the outside world. Exports boomed and Australia prospered as the iron horse brought an ever increasing range of tonnage of primary products down to the sea. Changing times have seen many railways and particularly "Pioneer Lines" outlive their purpose. Although, happily there are exceptions to every rule.
