When you need to get really close to your vehicle for the central locking to work, your battery is just about gone. The remote can dump the signal if you let the battery go flat, you will then have to have it re-programmed.

If you have your Owners Handbook, the mechanical keycode should be written in that, and it would be a good idea, if your key is worn, to have it cut back to code, and most reputable locksmiths will do this for you. This ensures proper function of your ignition at all times.

You should also be aware that having many keys on your key ring will wear your ignition barrell 10 times quicker than normal.
