MAKINTI NAPANANGKA~'Top Shelf' Quality INVESTMENT!

Description

Makinti Napanangka

A TOP SHELF INVESTMENT PIECE
AT A BARGAIN BASEMENT PRICE!

TITLE: 'Lupulnga' - Women's Hair String
PAINTED IMAGE SIZE: approx 440 x 400 mm [plus border for framing]
COMPLETED: 2009
MEDIUM: Acrylic paint on pre-primed canvas

THE PAINTING: A feature of Makinti's magnificent work are the randomly crafted wandering lines that depict the swirling hair string skirts worn by the women during Pintupi ceremonies associated with certain sites. Whilst the actual patterning refers to the skirts themselves, the delicately flowing rhythm of the lines hints at the songs and dances performed at the ceremonies.

This stunningly effective compact piece would undoubtedly enhance any wall – or be an important step into the world of serious indigenous art investment. The photos simply do not do it justice – the richness and depth of colour cannot begin to be generated photographically.

NOTE: Please see other photos below.

THE ARTIST:
Born: c1930
Place: Lupul Rockhole
Region: Kintore, Northern Territory
Language: Pintupi

Makinti Napanangka is a senior Pintupi woman, born south of Kintore in the Western Desert around 1930 and commenced painting for the Papunya Tula Art movement in 1996. She quickly developed her own unique raw style – one that adopts a more spontaneous and energetic approach to illustrating iconographic imagery than the traditional dotting technique employed by other Papunya artists. Makinti's amazing work is now highly sought after all over the world and is represented in many major public and private collections. As testament to her incredible talent, Makinti won the $40,000 25th Telstra Art Award – the most acclaimed indigenous art prize – in 2008. And as a guide to her investment potential, Makinti’s current top price at auction is $72,000 - and rising.

PROVENANCE: This painting is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity plus a photo of Makinti holding her painting, that she has signed verso [X].
