WILLY TJUNGURRAYI~XXX LARGE SUPER FUND INVESTMENT~WOW!

Description

Willy Tjungurrayi

A STUNNING EXTRA LARGE INVESTMENT PIECE FROM ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREAT ARTISTS!

AVERAGE GALLERY PRICE $12,750

TITLE: Tingari Dreaming
FRAMING AREA SIZE: X LARGE approx 2100 x 1200 mm [plus border for framing]
COMPLETED: 2007
MEDIUM: Artist acrylic paint on thick quality canvas

THE STORY: Willy paints designs associated with the sacred and secret ceremonies of the Tingari Cycle. These stories recount the ancient tales of the Tingari people, an important group of mythical elders who travelled over vast stretches of the country back in creation time, performing rituals and imparting their knowledge to young initiates.

THE PAINTING:
This is an EXTRA LARGE stunning example of Willy’s energetic painting style, depicting stories from the Tingari Dreaming song cycle. The rich earthy orange/red lines
illustrate the tracks to the meeting places and the white dots indicate the fierce hailstorm that killed some of the ancestral Tingari Men during their travels in the Dreamtime. This is all set against a contrasting primed black background on quality artist canvas. Willy painted this excellent piece back in 2007, before his technique started to become 'messy' due to his advancing years.

As Willy's larger works can now fetch over $40,000 [top price $59,250] at auction, this painting represents outstanding investment potential for a last opportunity top up your Super Fund - not to mention the stunning impression it would make when proudly hung on your wall!

THE ARTIST:
Name: Willy Tjungurrayi
Born: c1930
Place: Patjantja, Northern Territory
Area: Wilkinkarra [Lake Mackay]

Willy Tjungurrayi is the brother of respected painters George ‘Hairbrush’ Tjungarrayi and the late Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi. He came in to Haast's Bluff in 1956 with other Pintupi people and began painting for Papunya Tula Artists in 1976. By the early1980s Willy was recognized as a senior Pintupi painter and he joined the movement for their return to the Pintupi homelands. He now lives and paints at Walungurru. Willy’s numerous private and public collections include the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, the Holmes a Court Collection, Art gallery of NSW in Sydney and Artbank, as well as featuring in many private and public international collections.

PROVENANCE: A Certificate of Authenticity with a photo of Willy holding his work that he has signed [x] verso.
