JUDY WATSON NAPANGARDI~Stunning XXX LARGE INVESTMENT!!!

Description

Judy Watson Napangardi

A HUGE COLOURFUL MASTERPIECE
FROM ONE OF THE LIVING GREATS!

HUGE Savings ~ Average Gallery Retail $19,950!

TITLE: Hair String Skirt
IMAGE FRAMING SIZE: approx 2000 x 920 mm [plus border for framing]
YEAR COMPLETED: 2009
MEDIUM: Atelier acrylic paint on quality pre-primed linen

THE PAINTING: In a word [or two]: SIMPLY SPECTACULAR! Without a shadow of a doubt, Judy Watson is one of the most brilliant and collectable indigenous artists alive today - and this magnificent masterpiece showcases why. Executed with a raw enthusiasm and obsessive passion that belies her advancing years, nobody comes close to Judy in regards to vibrant colour selection and lineal movement - and she's not afraid to use her paint! How she evokes so much energy and spirituality in one painting is truly amazing.

Because a Judy Watson painting fetched $216,000 at a Lawson-Menzies auction last year, this striking piece would undoubtedly be an astute investment for the future as well as enhancing any wall that it happens to grace now.

PLEASE NOTE: Please see other photos below.

THE ARTIST:
Born: c1935
Place: Yarungkanji [Mt Doreen Station], Northern Territory
Region: Yuendumu
Language Group: Warlpiri

Judy Watson Napangardi is a petite Warlpiri woman who possesses enormous energy for one so dainty. She has mothered 10 children - outliving two of them - and continues to work at a pace that many would find daunting. Besides still producing some glorious canvases, she is also kept busy in her role as the chairwoman of the Warlukurlangu artist community at Yuendumu. Taught to paint by her internationally renowned sister, the late Maggie Watson, she has carried on the Mina Mina [situated between the Gibson and Tanimi Desert] dreamings with their unique trademark painting technique. Gradually changing from the traditional rather subdued style of dot painting to a more contemporary use of vibrant colour and form, the sisters have revolutionised indigenous art.

As one of Australia’s foremost aboriginal artists, Judy’s work has been extensively exhibited all over the world as well as featuring in numerous permanent public and private collections – the National Gallery in Canberra, the Westpac Gallery in New York, The Robert Holmes a Court collection and the British Museum in London, to name but a select few. And with a top auction price to date of $216,000, her investment potenential is unlimited.

PROVENANCE: This painting is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity with a photo of Judy holding her work that she has signed [+] verso.
