GLORIA PETYARRE~XXX LARGE Absolutely STUNNING BIG LEAF!

Description

Gloria Petyerre

A BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED LARGE PAINTING
WITH ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL COLOUR & MOVEMENT!

GLORIOUS GLORIA AT A
FRACTION OF GALLERY PRICES!

EXPECT TO PAY $10,000 - $15,000 IN A TRADITIONAL GALLERY!

TITLE: Bush Medicine Leaves
PAINTED IMAGE SIZE: LARGE ~ approx 2000 x 1200 mm [plus border for framing]
COMPLETED: 2009
MEDIUM: Acrylic paint on quality pre-primed linen

THE STORY: In a word [or two]: ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! Gloria's magnificent large painting depicts the leaves of a particular type of native shrub [kurrajong] renowned for its medicinal properties. These leaves are gathered by the women, boiled over a camp fire to make a bush tea and then the residue is mixed with kangaroo fat to make various healing potions - the perfect natural bush medicine!

THE PAINTING: Without a doubt, Gloria is the 'Queen of the leaves' - nobody can paint them quite like her - and this amazing piece is a simply stunning example of her newer free flowing larger leaf style that is taking the galleries by storm! Subtley beautiful autumn tones are energetically set aginst an earthy red primed background. This sensational piece would undoubtedly enhance any wall that it happened to grace [hung either vertically or horizontally]. And as a guide to its investment potential, you could expect to pay up to $15,000 for a painting of these dimensions in a traditional gallery!

NOTE: Please see other photos below.

THE ARTIST:
Born: c1945
Place: Atnangkere Soakage, Northern Territory
Region: Utopia
Language Group; Anmatyerre

Gloria was a founding member of the Utopia womens Batik group in the 1970s. An extremely innovative and dynamic artist, she was instrumental in pioneering the traditional iconography of the Anmatyerre onto silk. In the early 1980s, Gloria transferred her vast talents to canvas and soon developed her own unique style of translating the stories of her traditional country.

As one of Australia's foremost aboriginal artists, and sister to the equally famous Kathleen Petyarre, Gloria's work has been extensively exhibited all over the world as well as featuring in numerous permanent public and private collections including the National Gallery in Canberra, the Westpac Gallery in New York, The Robert Holmes a Court collection and the British Museum in London, to name but a select few.

PROVENANCE: This painting is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity with a photo of Gloria holding her work that she has signed verso.
