GLORIA PETYARRE~Absolutely HUGE Colour & Movement!!!
|
DescriptionGloria Tamerre Petyarre
A SIMPLY MASSIVE PAINTING ~ AT AN UNMASSIVE PRICE!
TITLE: Mountain Devil Dreaming PAINTED IMAGE SIZE: XXXLARGE - approx 2075 x 1245 mm [plus border] COMPLETED: 2008 MEDIUM: Acrylic paint on Fredrix LINEN
THE STORY: The swirls of shed skin from the Mountain Thorny Devil Lizard change colour as the sun rises and sets in the arid desert. Unlike many other larger lizards found in the desert region, the Mountain Thorny Devil Lizard is not caught for food.
THE PAINTING: Without a doubt, nobody can paint the Lizard Skin Dreaming like Gloria - and this EXTRA LARGE piece is a simply stunning example of Gloria’s free flowing work. Looking at the gentle hypnotic movement of the bright sky blue and dusky pink swirls on a contrasting primed black background, you can almost see the shed lizard skin shimmering in the sun. This mesmerising painting would undoubtedly command attention on any wall right now as well as being an astute investment for the future.
[Please note; in a small patch at one end of the painting the pink colour appears to dominate. If this slight uneveness is a problem [and it shouldn't be] it is only 7 cm into the painting, still leaving plenty of painted area for a HUGE 2000 x 1245 mm framed picture.]
A Gloria Petyarre painting of this stature would easily command a large five figure price tag in a traditional art gallery, thereby making the asking price an absolute bargain.
THE ARTIST: Born: c1945 Place: Atnangkere Soakage, Northern Territory Region: Utopia Language Group; Anmatyerre
Gloria was a founding member of the Utopia women’s Batik group in the 1970s. An extremely innovative and dynamic artist, she was instrumental in pioneering the traditional iconography of the Anmatyerre onto silk. In the early 1980s, Gloria transferred her vast talents to canvas and soon developed her own unique style of translating the stories of her traditional country.
As one of Australia’s foremost aboriginal artists, and sister to the equally famous Kathleen Petyarre, Gloria’s work has been extensively exhibited all over the world as well as featuring in numerous permanent public and private collections – the National Gallery in Canberra, the Westpac Gallery in New York, The Robert Holmes a Court collection and the British Museum in London, to name but a select few.
PROVENANCE: A Certificate of Authenticity with a photo of Gloria holding her work and a CD ROM with photos of Gloria with her work that she has signed verso.
