THE STORY: Gloria’s magnificent extra large painting depicts the leaves of a particular type of native shrub [kurrajong] renowned for its remarkable natural medicinal properties. These leaves are gathered by the women and boiled in a large bucket over a camp fire. The resulting liquid is then drunk as a herbal bush tea with the residue being mixed with kangaroo fat to form a medicinal paste that is applied to various parts of the body to help in the healing process of a multitude of ills - the perfect natural bush medicine!

Without a doubt, nobody can paint the kurrajong leaves quite like Gloria - and this amazing piece is just another stunning example of her free flowing work. Painted in her latest large leaf format in a stunningly effective combination of mainly a vibrant burnt orange and a light emerald green set over an earthy red primed background, this striking piece would undoubtedly enhance any wall that it happened to grace as well as being an astute investment.

A Gloria Petyarre painting of this stature would easily command a large five figure price tag in a traditional art gallery, thereby making the asking price an absolute bargain. As an example of its potential investment potential, a larger painting of Gloria's leaf work has fetched over $78,000 at a Lawson-Menzies 2007 art auction!

Gloria was a founding member of the Utopia women’s Batik group in the 1970s. An extremely innovative and dynamic artist, she was instrumental in pioneering the traditional iconography of the Anmatyerre onto silk. In the early 1980s, Gloria transferred her vast talents to canvas and soon developed her own unique style of translating the stories of her traditional country.

As one of Australia’s foremost aboriginal artists, and sister to the equally famous Kathleen Petyarre, Gloria’s work has been extensively exhibited all over the world as well as featuring in numerous permanent public and private collections – the National Gallery in Canberra, the Westpac Gallery in New York, The Robert Holmes a Court collection and the British Museum in London, to name but a select few.

PROVENANCE: A Certificate of Authenticity with a  photo of Gloria holding her work plus a series of work-in-progress photos. Gloria has signed her work verso.

However, any noticeable splashes or painted over areas are totally acceptable as they form part of the individual creative process and also help to confirm the identity of each particular piece.

* Each photograph is shown as close to the actual colours of the painting as possible. However, those colours may vary slightly due to lighting conditions or the buyer’s monitor used for viewing.

* Wherever possible, we observe and respect traditional indigenous sensitivities and tribal customs. We apologise in advance to any living relatives if references or photographs of deceased persons may offend. No offence is ever intended.

* Payments are accepted via direct bank deposit or Paypal and are to be made within 3 days of purchase (unless alternative arrangements have been made with us). If using bank deposit, please contact us for our bank details [if we don’t send them first] and leave your ebay username or item number as a reference.

* All paintings will be sent unframed [unless otherwise stated] and rolled up in a strong secure postal tube via insured registered mail or courier [depending on the size]. Overseas purchasers, please email for a postage and or insurance quote as costs can vary considerably from country to country.

* We are happy to combine multiple items to help you save on postage, but you will need to contact us for an estimate as costs are determined by parcel weight and volume.

* All paintings are sold as is. Refunds will only be given in the event of manufacture imperfections in materials on receipt - not on the subjective aesthetic appeal of the painting.
