IMAGING THE WEST IMAGES OF WESTERN SYDNEY: THE FIRST HUNDRED YEARS The 1790'S to the 1890's An essay to accompany an Exhibition of Colonial Images of Western Sydney held at the Lewers Bequest & Penrith Regional Gallery October 1994 - January 1995 Limited Edition of 300 Copies No: 039 Signed by P J Kent Pages 24 Weight 90 gms For auction is the research/essay which accompanied the exhibition. "This research publication analyses and interprets the visual panorama of images depicting the history of Western Sydney during the nineteenth century." "Dr Phillip Kent and research assistants, Jane King and Colin Hood have systematically catalogued and compiled a register of pictorial information relating to the cultural and artistic development that is characteristic of nineteenth-century Western Sydney - from Parramatta to the Blue Mountains and Camden to Richmond. The reserach further documents the artistic representations of a region going through rapid social, political, economic and cultural change. It is hoped that this project will illuminate how changing socio-cultural patterns within the region have affected and been reflected in the way Western Sydney has been visually described and portrayed. Imaging the West curated by Dr Phillip Kent is another project which the Lewers Gallery has collaborated on with academics from the University of Western Sydney, Nepean in an attempt to understand, document and map notions of the Western Sydney cultural landscape." I am selling my personal library/research books that I no longer need or use, I am not doing it as a business, rather so that all the resources I have can be of benefit to others (as they have been to me). If I can sell them and recoup some of their cost - well that is a bonus, especially when I'm looking at retirement and know the money will come in useful. Have a look at my other sales, or email me if you are looking for anything specific to do with Aboriginal History, Art or Culture. Thank you for looking |
