To celebrate 100 years of pension payments, the Royal Australian Mint has produced a $1 circulating coin which honours the contribution pensioners have made to the Australian society.

The Invalid and Old Aged Pensions Act 1908 was, at the time, landmark legislation and placed Australia at the forefront of social policy reform. For all Australians the Age Pension was, and remains, a symbol of an abiding commitment to one another's welfare. A century on, the Age Pension continues to be the cornerstone of Australia’s income support system.

The 2009 Royal Australian Mint $1 Roll is taken from an original Royal Australian Mint coin roll.
