  TACCA Integrifolia

"Giant Bat Flower"

Tacca integrifolia is probably the most unusual flowering plant of all !!

 Its total weird flower arrangement is about one metre from top to bottom, on a spike, also one metre long. Its top bracts consist of two spectacular flowers usually white and purple stripes and each one about 200mm wide. The true flowers  are like thick purple buttons and then there are huge purple whiskers which hang from the flowers to about 600mm below.

Spectacular is not the word for this one !!


The soil is one of the most important things for success with Taccas. The mixture needs
to be light, very porous, something that drains well.
Use something like:
60% peat moss
30% perlite
10% vermiculite
The soil should be a little bit acid

LIGHT REQUIREMENTS : shade
WATER REQUIREMENTS : always keep moist
MIN. TEMP. : mid 50's F and 15-20 C
FLOWER : year round
